The root of it all

Rooted in Nature

Mycelium is an organism, part of the fungi kingdom and is present under every step we take. It is the underground root structure of mushrooms. Acting as nature’s glue, it holds the forest floor together, while breaking down and converting organic matter into nutrients.

Over the years, we have learned how to harness the growth process of this organism not only to grow mushrooms, but also to create innovative materials and products.

Endlessly Circular

Mushrooms are traditionally grown on substrate blocks, through which the mycelium network grows and eventually produces the fruiting bodies; the mushrooms.

After the mushrooms are harvested the substrate block is usually discarded as waste. We at Mycelium Material have developed a technology to repurpose these blocks in our products and materials. There’s no use of ‘virgin’ material, making our entire range of products 100% circular.

Grown to Shape

Our circular materials consist of just two components: substrate and mushroom mycelium.

Both components can endlessly be tuned to different characteristics, to achieve end results that are soft, stiff or even flexible.

Mycelium products can be grown into almost any shape imaginable – flat panels or complex structures: it’s all possible.
